The dirt road Denali Highway used to be the only way to get to Denali National Park until the paved Parks Highway was built. The Denali Highway is now considered to be one of the premier road "adventures" in Alaska. Much of the Alaska Range can be seen from the Highway, but the range is usually obsured by clouds. When I visited there in late August/September 2016, the Alaska Range was there in all its glacial and snowy splendor. And the distances seemed to be endless. The autumnal tones added to the splendor of the landscape. I used the Canon 7D MK I and 17-55 f/2.8 lens, handheld and sbot in RAW. The camera exif is ISO 200, f/6.7 @ 1/250 second with a focal length of 47mm.
The "great outdoors" has always been an important part of my life, even though I was born, raised and have a mailing address in Los Angeles' busy port town of San Pedro. I've hiked the country lanes and paths of Great Britain, bike toured thorough Europe for 6 months, backpacked in the Sierra Nevada, and "truck camped" around the western US for weeks at a time, taking in the scenery and places of solitude. I worked at a Kaiser hospital for 34 years, then retired in 2013 at age 56 and hit the road, living in my travel trailer; I’ve been on the road now since June 2013 and plan to keep on living with no fixed address for at least another 2 years.
