Artist's Description
New Mexico's Bosque del Apache Nat'l Wildlife Refuge is best known for its numbers of wintering Sandhill Cranes and Snow Geese but raptors are there, too. While visiting Bosque on January 13, 2020 my friends and I came upon a back pond where Bald Eagles, Ravens, and Harriers were taking turns dining on a Sandhill Crane that had been trapped in the ice. This is the adult Bald Eagle; the others were a sub-adult and at least 2 juveniles.

The "great outdoors" has always been an important part of my life, even though I was born, raised and have a mailing address in Los Angeles' busy port town of San Pedro. I've hiked the country lanes and paths of Great Britain, bike toured thorough Europe for 6 months, backpacked in the Sierra Nevada, and "truck camped" around the western US for weeks at a time, taking in the scenery and places of solitude. I worked at a Kaiser hospital for 34 years, then retired in 2013 at age 56 and hit the road, living in my travel trailer; I’ve been on the road now since June 2013 and plan to keep on living with no fixed address for at least another 2 years.
