In late March 2017 2 friends and I went on an African safari,, visiting Kenya's Amboseli National Park and Tanzania's Tarangire and Serengeti Nat'l Parks, and Ngorongoro Crater. It was a productive trip, seeing giraffes, lions, cheetahs, leopard, jackals, and rare and endangered Black Rhino in Ngorongoro Crater, the world's largest inactive, intact and unfilled volcanic caldera. We stayed at a lodge in Amboseli which had a spectacular view of Mr. Kilimanjaro, the tallest mountain in Africa, though it's in Tanzania, not Kenya. The photo shows an adult elephant and calf in Amboseli.
The "great outdoors" has always been an important part of my life, even though I was born, raised and have a mailing address in Los Angeles' busy port town of San Pedro. I've hiked the country lanes and paths of Great Britain, bike toured thorough Europe for 6 months, backpacked in the Sierra Nevada, and "truck camped" around the western US for weeks at a time, taking in the scenery and places of solitude. I worked at a Kaiser hospital for 34 years, then retired in 2013 at age 56 and hit the road, living in my travel trailer; I’ve been on the road now since June 2013 and plan to keep on living with no fixed address for at least another 2 years.
