Description
Valley of Fire State Park, about 65 miles northeast of Las Vegas, Nevada, is famous for its wildly striped and colorful rock formations. The "fire" in its name is not because the rock and formations were created volcanically but rather that the Aztec Sandstone -- fossilized sand dunes -- can look like it's "on fire" when the light is just right. When I took this photograph in February 2019 the overall look reminded me of a painting by Vincent Van Gogh. I took this using the Canon 7D MK II and 17-55 f/2.8 IS lens.
