The Fire Wave in Nevada's Valley of Fire State Park is hallowed ground for landscape photographers, with its sinuously-striped rock glowing softly in the setting sun. This image was taken on February 7, 2014 using the Canon 40D DSLR and EF-S 17-55 f/2.8 IS lens with a circular polarizer. The camera exif is ISO 400, f/5 @ 1/100 sec.
The "great outdoors" has always been an important part of my life, even though I was born, raised and have a mailing address in Los Angeles' busy port town of San Pedro. I've hiked the country lanes and paths of Great Britain, bike toured thorough Europe for 6 months, backpacked in the Sierra Nevada, and "truck camped" around the western US for weeks at a time, taking in the scenery and places of solitude. I worked at a Kaiser hospital for 34 years, then retired in 2013 at age 56 and hit the road, living in my travel trailer; I’ve been on the road now since June 2013 and plan to keep on living with no fixed address for at least another 2 years. Appreciate your generous comment, Bill! The Fire Wave is a favorite of photographers here, and I still haven't photographed it at its best, when the setting sun reflects off clouds which in turn light up the Fire Wave rock; hopefully the right conditions will occur soon. But this photo will do until then... :o)
