Did you get to go to the Valley of Fire State Park? Sunset or even late in the afternoon, when you come over the pass into the park, the whole valley looks like it is on fire.

Steve Wolfe replied:

Hi Nadine and Bob -- I'm staying at an RV park right next to the Valley of Fire, and I have a year's pass for the VOF. You're right, it's a fantastic area, along with the Gold Butte area east of VOF across the Muddy River.

Artist's Description

Except for a touch of sharpening, this is untouched, and the scene before you is exactly as I saw it, with the red-violet tinge...It's an area in SE Nevada called "Little Finland", named for its fins, hobgoblins, hoodoos, and whimsical figures that can be conjured up in the rock formations. This was taken at a point during sunset when the light reflected off the clouds and cast an unearthly glow on an already otherworldly landscape. The camera used was the Canon 40D, the lens the EF-S 17-55 f/2.8 IS USM. Exif info is ISO 200, f/2.8 @ 1/10 sec, taken using a tripod.

I worked at a Kaiser hospital for 34 years, then retired in 2013 at age 56 and hit the road, living in my travel trailer; I’ve been on the road now since June 2013 and plan to keep on living with no fixed address for at least another 2 years. I spend most of the daylight hours hiking and photographing with either the Canon 40D DSLR and...
