While visiting Nevada's Valley of Fire State Park in February 2014 I witnessed a cold winter storm move through the area. The highlights were a double rainbow and this scene just before sunset, showing the colorful Valley of Fire in the foreground with the formation called The Rock of Gibraltar on the left. In the distance, the sun's last rays light up the clouds and rain tendrils over the mountains on the north shore of Lake Mead. The camera I used was the Canon 40D digital SLR and the lens was the Canon EF-S 17-55mm F2.8 with a circular polarizer.
The "great outdoors" has always been an important part of my life, even though I was born, raised and have a mailing address in Los Angeles' busy port town of San Pedro. I've hiked the country lanes and paths of Great Britain, bike toured thorough Europe for 6 months, backpacked in the Sierra Nevada, and "truck camped" around the western US for weeks at a time, taking in the scenery and places of solitude. I worked at a Kaiser hospital for 34 years, then retired in 2013 at age 56 and hit the road, living in my travel trailer; I’ve been on the road now since June 2013 and plan to keep on living with no fixed address for at least another 2 years.
