Thanks Ben! And I think the green Park bus with the dust plume behind it adds interest to the scene, too. One of the things that impressed me the most about The Far North is the immense scale. Nothing compares to it in the lower 48.

Love how the road snakes its way toward the Big One!! Some sense of scale maybe, but I have to get there soon!

Artist's Description

It's been said the odds are one in three that visitors to interior Alaska will see Denali. But when it's "out", it can be seen from Anchorage or Fairbanks. When I visited Alaska in late August/September 2016, Denali was out for nearly two weeks straight. Here's the mountain as seen from a pullout along the road into Denali National Park; you can see one of the green tour buses on the road, kicking up a plume of dust behind it. I used the Canon 7D MK I with the EF-S 17-55 USM f/2.8 IS lens. The camera exif is ISO 100, f/5.6 @ 1/125 sec. and a focal length of 42mm. I shot this in RAW and handheld.

I've hiked the country lanes and paths of Great Britain, bike toured thorough Europe for 6 months, backpacked in the Sierra Nevada, and "truck camped" around the western US for weeks at a time, taking in the scenery and places of solitude. I worked at a Kaiser hospital for 34 years, then retired in 2013 at age 56 and hit the road, living in my travel trailer; I’ve been on the road now since June 2013 and plan to keep on living with no fixed address for at least another 2 years. I spend most of the daylight hours hiking and photographing with either the Canon 40D DSLR and...
