The male Wood Duck is truly surrealistic-looking, a duck as seen through the eyes of Salvador Dali. This was taken with the Canon 7D DSLR and the EF 500mm f/4 L IS USM telephoto lens. The camera exif is ISO 400, f/5 @ 1/2500 sec.

The "great outdoors" has always been an important part of my life, even though I was born, raised and have a mailing address in Los Angeles' busy port town of San Pedro. I've hiked the country lanes and paths of Great Britain, bike toured thorough Europe for 6 months, backpacked in the Sierra Nevada, and "truck camped" around the western US for weeks at a time, taking in the scenery and places of solitude. I worked at a Kaiser hospital for 34 years, then retired in 2013 at age 56 and hit the road, living in my travel trailer; I’ve been on the road now since June 2013 and plan to keep on living with no fixed address for at least another 2 years.
